My first football betting tip comes from La Liga, where Real Madrid travel away from home to face Espanyol, and I can only see this match going one way. Espanyol may have won their opening game of the season, but that victory came against Levante, a side widely tipped to struggle and potentially face relegation.
Meanwhile, Madrid have strengthened significantly over the summer, bringing in the likes of Bernardo Silva, Marc Cucurella and Ibrahim Konate. After falling short to Barcelona in the title race last term, they will be determined to make a strong start, and I see excellent value in backing Real Madrid to lead at halftime before going on to win.
Newcastle v Liverpool – Over (2.5) Goals @ 1.48
My next pick comes from the Premier League, with Newcastle United hosting Liverpool in arguably the game of the weekend. Newcastle have lost several key players this summer, including Sandro Tonali, Bruno Guimaraes and Anthony Gordon, while there are also question marks surrounding the strength and balance of Liverpool’s squad.
With plenty of uncertainty surrounding both teams heading into the opening fixture of the season, I’m expecting an open and entertaining contest. That makes Over (2.5) Goals the standout betting angle.
PSG to win Handicap (0:1) @ 1.90
Next up, I’m backing reigning French champions PSG to win their opening Ligue 1 fixture of the season in style. Their opponents, Stade Rennais, finished sixth last season, but they ended the campaign a huge 17 points behind the champions, highlighting the gap between the two sides.
The last time these teams met at the Parc des Princes, PSG ran riot with a 5-0 victory over their opponents. I’m expecting another comfortable result here, and there looks to be excellent value in backing PSG to win on the Handicap (0:1) market.
Barcelona to win both halves @ 2.75
My final football betting tip of the weekend comes from La Liga, where last season’s champions Barcelona take on Elche. Their opponents opened the campaign with a draw against newly promoted Deportivo, while Elche only avoided relegation by a single point last term and are widely expected to be involved in another battle at the bottom this season.
Barcelona, meanwhile, dominated La Liga last season and finished eight points clear at the top of the table. They will be looking to hit the ground running, and with a significant gulf in quality between the two sides, I see superb value in backing Barca to win both halves.
