Switzerland to win both halves @ 2.38
My first 2026 World Cup betting tip comes from Switzerland’s clash with Qatar, and this looks like one of the strongest favourites of matchday one. Switzerland head into the tournament in excellent form, losing just one of their last 14 matches, with that defeat coming in a narrow 4-3 loss to Germany in a friendly.
Qatar, meanwhile, have failed to win any of their last six matches and sit outside the world’s top 50 rankings. Given the clear difference in quality, I expect Switzerland to dominate from the first whistle, making Switzerland to win both halves a standout value pick.
Brazil v Morocco: Over (2.5) Goals @ 1.97
Arguably the biggest fixture of matchday one sees Brazil face Morocco, with both nations expected to progress comfortably from the group stages. This game could prove decisive in determining who finishes top, and with so much attacking talent on display, goals look highly likely.
Brazil’s recent matches have consistently delivered entertainment, with over 2.5 goals landing in each of their last four games. Meanwhile, the same has happened in three out of Morocco’s last four games. Over 2.5 Goals offers excellent value and looks one of the strongest World Cup betting predictions of the week..
Turkiye to win @ 1.76
Another exciting encounter sees Australia take on Turkiye, with the Turkish side entering the tournament in strong form. Turkiye are unbeaten in their last eight matches across all competitions, including an impressive result against tournament favourites Spain. Confidence is clearly high heading into the World Cup.
Australia, on the other hand, are without a win in five matches and arguably haven’t faced opposition of the same calibre in the build-up to the tournament. Based on recent form and overall quality, Turkiye to win stands out as a smart selection at attractive odds.
Netherlands to win @ 2.00
Another heavyweight clash in matchday one sees Netherlands face Japan in a game that could shape the outcome of their group. Both nations are expected to challenge for the top two places, but I believe the Netherlands have the edge thanks to their experience and consistency at major tournaments.
The Dutch are unbeaten in their last eight competitive fixtures, while Japan arrive with a significant setback, as star player Kaoru Mitoma misses the tournament through injury. With tournament know-how and what I believe to be a stronger squad, Netherlands to win looks a strong value play.
